Dr. Fauci Calls New Virus Variants a “Wake-Up Call”

Dr. Fauci stated last week that with new virus variants popping up, “We will have to be nimble to be able to just adjust readily to make versions of the vaccine that actually are specifically directed towards whatever mutation is actually traveling at any given time.” His goal remains to vaccinate as many people as quickly as possible.

Coronavirus mutations

  • Virus variants are quite common and to be expected.
  • The new South African variant is showing a weaker response than others to the vaccine.
  • It’s important to continue to mask up and social distance, as preventing the virus from spreading also prevents it from having a “playing field” and mutating.
  • Since the primary vaccines were developed based on earlier versions of the virus, scientists are continuing to test the vaccines with the new mutations.
