Nancy Pelosi is getting ready for her 2021 legislative plan with two “great, big initiatives” that she wants to prioritize.

Pelosi’s two big initiatives

Her top two initiatives are:

  1. Expanding healthcare access to all Americans by expanding the Affordable Care Act. Joe Biden would also like to add a public option to the ACA.
  2. Rebuilding American infrastructure. Pelosi wants to “build back America” in a ”green and sustainable” way.

“Those are two great big initiatives that we have — and we welcome — to rescue our country from a pandemic, from an economic downturn,” Pelosi said.

“You always have to be ready,” Pelosi said. “It’s not as if you are assuming anything, it’s that you’re assuming that it’s possible.”

Pelosi’s and Biden’s Medicare plans

Pelosi and Biden are longtime friends and colleagues whose visions for America align. Legislative possibilities on the table include requiring the federal government to negotiate with pharmaceutical companies on drug prices and providing prescription discounts to Medicare beneficiaries.

Pelosi and Biden also want to tackle immigration reform, providing a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants. Pelosi also wants to require background checks before someone can purchase a gun.

Other priorities Pelosi wants to tackle are:

  1. Expand voting access.
  2. Alter campaign financing laws.
  3. Introduce new government ethics requirements, such as disclosing personal tax returns.

2020 election still ongoing

The 2020 presidential election remains too close to call, with certain states still counting votes. As of 2 pm Central time, five states remained toss-ups: Georgia, North Carolina, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. Nancy Pelosi says she will run again for Speaker of the House if the Democrats keep House control.
