Good news for Medicare Advantage beneficiaries in 2019: the average monthly premium will decrease by 6%, from $29.81 to $28.00. For 83% of Medicare Advantage enrollees, their premium will remain the same or be lower than in 2018.
Around 46% of Medicare Advantage plans come with a $0 premium, but make sure to look at the other costs involved when choosing one of these plans.
This decrease in premium rate is the result of an expansion of options for Medicare Advantage plans. MA plans have higher enrollment, more plan options, and increased benefits across the board.
Around 3,700 Medicare Advantage plans will be available in 2019, and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) expect the number of enrollees to increase from 20.2 million to 22.6 million enrollees.
Also new for 2019, 270 Medicare Advantage plans will offer supplemental benefits such as:
- Adult day care
- In-home support services
- In-home palliative care
- Therapeutic massage
