UnitedHealthcare (UHC) and Walgreens are collaborating once again to open 14 Medicare service centers in five cities across the country beginning January 2020.

If you have a Medicare Advantage plan through UnitedHealthcare, convenience may be coming to a Walgreens near you. Fourteen Walgreens within Las Vegas, Phoenix, Cleveland, Denver, and Memphis will be part of a pilot project to open Medicare service centers to better serve beneficiaries.

Within these centers, Walgreens customers can learn more about Medicare, review UHC plan benefits, enroll in a UHC plan, or schedule an in-store annual wellness visit using the UHC’s HouseCalls program

Rick Gates, senior VP of Walgreens’ pharmacy and healthcare said in a press release, “Walgreens’ collaboration with UnitedHealthcare helps people navigate their healthcare options and provides convenient access to affordable care. Through strategic partnerships like this, Walgreens store locations can offer comprehensive services tailored to the specific needs of the communities we serve that are conveniently accessible alongside our pharmacy services.”

According to the release, many UHC plans have $0 premiums and $0 copays for primary care visits, preventative care, and for many common generic drugs purchased in Walgreens, the provider’s preferred pharmacy.

Other UnitedHealthcare initiatives

As the largest provider of private Medicare Advantage plans, UnitedHealthcare has also launched groundbreaking programs to provide beneficiaries with benefits most Medicare plans don’t offer.

For example, UnitedHealthcare launched a program for beneficiaries with hearing loss, a benefit Medicare does not cover. However, the UHC program goes one step further, also providing hearing benefits for people with private or employer-sponsored plans.
