SilverSneakers is the largest nationwide program dedicated to helping seniors get fit and stay healthy through routine exercise. It offers more than 70 types of classes to choose from, including boot camp, circuit training, strength and balance, tai chi, yoga, and water aerobics.

SilverSneakers has more than 17,000 participating locations across the country, so you can choose between Zumba classes at one gym, free weights at another, and swimming laps at yet another.

Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) does not cover traditional gym memberships. Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plans typically do not cover gym memberships either.

Many Medicare Advantage plans do cover SilverSneakers and similar programs, such as Silver&Fit, SeniorPHIT, and Renew Active.

Note: Some Medicare Advantage providers (like UnitedHealthcare) have dropped coverage of SilverSneakers in recent years in favor of creating their own fitness programs. Check your SilverSneakers eligibility instantly here.

If your Medicare Advantage plan covers SilverSneakers, you should have no additional cost.

Medicare By State

Medicare is regulated by the federal government. However, private insurance companies are allowed to offer various parts of Medicare, and these plans can differ from state to state.
